Thanks for sharing.
I do studio photography. When I take portraits for my clients, besides the camera settings, I also pay attention to the background. I like using backdrops for photrography. As for portrait photography, solid color backdrops (such as black, white, grey are perfect choices) and abstract backdrops work well, especially the latter.
I recommend these abstract backdrops: https://bit.ly/3zSQm8z

I think It’s better to try different angles while your subject poses. That will help you find an angle with perfect lighting and pose.Well, when i have started my https://photographerwatch.com/what-is-portrait-photography/ I also talk with that point in detail. However, while i shoot i have always try to shoot from different angles of subjects eye line.

Always keep it simple. Too much in any photo leads to confusion.

Lesson #2, Don’t confuse the viewer. Keep it simple.

It’s hard to go in depth in a short article. Shooting into the light with a fill is a good trick. It separates the subject from the background. Shooting from above or below is conditional. The only “rule” with portraits is “flatter your subject”.

It’s time to rewrite a lot of the old portrait “rules” that are lingering from film days. “Been there, done that” applies. The only one that is still relevant is “flatter your subject”, meaning capture the best view of them.

Another “tip”: Up your retouching game. It’s becoming a lost art. Retouching is different than editing, and much easier with digital images, and a Wacom tablet. It’s a whole other topic, but If portraits are your specialty, it may be worth finding some ancient books on retouching from the film days.

Later in the shoot is also when the subject tends to relax into it more and gives you better results as they become more conformable with you and being in front of the camera.
