These macro rules are spot-on — and knowing when to break them really sets creative work apart. As an image editing company, we often see how clever composition and selective focus (or blur) can make or break a macro shot during post-processing. Especially love the part on controlled chaos — it’s a great way to create depth and emotion in close-up work.

I am enjoying the DPS so much each time as it appears in my mail account. Now to macro photography in special. I also am a macro pro-photographer, but reading this article convinced me of many mentioned aspects and rules, which I'll have to recall in my next macros and remember them. They are virtually all rules.. Thank you very much for all the articles!!

Go well mate ?

We’re not talking “rules” as in “the rules of the road”, which HAVE to be complied with, or there’d be chaos and carnage all over the place. I long ago decided that these principles served as “rules” during our apprenticeship, and then became “guidelines”. Sometimes creativity only starts when you turn one of these “rules” upside down. Sometimes you do your damnedest – and during post, nothing seems to look right – the suddenly, you see what you’ve missed, all along, and a bit of a crop, a change of format, a tweak of colours or contrast or whatever, and you have a masterpiece.
